GUIDE TO A BETTER LIFE - DR. RANDY PAUSCH

This is amazing; the author died of pancreatic cancer in 2008, but wrote a book. The last lecture before then, one of the bestsellers in 2007. What a legacy to leave behind.

POINTS ON HOW TO IMPROVE YOUR LIFE

Personality:

* Don't compare your life to others'. You have no idea what their journey is all about.

* Don't have negative thoughts of things you cannot control. Instead invest your energy in the positive present moment.

* Don't overdo; keep your limits.

* Don't take yourself so seriously; no one else does.

* Don't waste your precious energy on gossip.

* Dream more while you are awake.

* Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need.

* Forget issues of the past. Don't remind your partner of his/her mistakes of the past. That will ruin your present happiness.

* Life is too short to waste time hating anyone. Don't hate others.

* Make peace with your past so it won't spoil the present.

* No one is in charge of your happiness except you.

* Realize that life is a school and you are here to learn. Problems are simply part of the curriculum that appear and fade away like algebra class but the lessons you learn will last a lifetime.

* Smile and laugh more.

* You don't have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.

Community:

* Call your family often.

* Each day give something good to others.

* Forgive everyone for everything

* Spend time with people over the age of 70 & under the age of 6.

* Try to make at least three people smile each day.

* What other people think of you is none of your business.

* Your job will not take care of you when you are sick. Your family and friends will. Stay in touch.

Life:

* Put GOD first in anything and everything that you think, say and do.

* GOD heals everything.

* Do the right things.

* However good or bad a situation is, it will change.

* No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.

* The best is yet to come.

* Get rid of anything that isn't useful, beautiful or joyful.

* When you awake alive in the morning, thank GOD for it.

* If you know GOD you will always be happy. So, be happy.

While you practice all of the above, share this knowledge with the people you love, people you school with, people you play with, people you work with and people you live with.

Not only will it enrich YOUR life, but also that of those around you.

Orange Tuesday: " Wish...Wish...Granted!"

Wish...wish...wish... :)

Reminiscing my childhood years….hmmm as a child who loves music…yes it was my greatest wish to have even just one musical instrument to play. So I did have a guitar but it was a toy guitar… it has 4 strings but I know it was not the real one like what I wished to have. Of course my parents won’t give me a real one. If they did, it would surely just end to nothing. They know my attitude. I was quite impatient in doing things I can’t. I was so spoiled child and I easily get wild. I didn’t know how to play guitar that time so it was just a waste. This desire started when I saw a lady playing with the real guitar. So I started clicking my toy guitar as if it’s the real one. hehehe.It was so cool.

That wish became more intense as I grew up. I can sing. And I want to sing with the guitar. So in my college years I started to click some basic guitar chords. Then I can play some songs with those basic chords I learned. Wow! But there was a time that I just feel frustrated about playing a guitar.I want to have a guitar of my own. Yes I did save money for it but I failed again…I used the money for other valuable things. My priorities just changed, setting aside first my personal wants.

But God make all things beautiful in His perfect time.

I got married just this year and things just changed! Full of surprises …and one of that is my wedding. It was really an awesome grand wedding for me. I’m so thankful to God for  my husband. God crossed our paths for a great purpose. It’s really a dream come true. And just recently another surprise for me. A Guitar! A BIG WOW! He bought a guitar as a gift for me ! I never told him about it. It was indeed the best gift I ever receive. I wished for it long time ago and it’s really great to have it now. My wish granted! I love it truly…Thank you Lord…

Why does chopping onions make you cry?

It's not tears of joy that you shed while preparing these beloved bulbs.Hmmm… countless times already that I experienced tears just dropping while cutting onions…and that’s why I wondered, why this thing makes me cry? It’s interesting, isn’t it? As what the article said that you can have whole onions sitting around your house for days, even weeks, and everything is just fine. But when you try chopping it even just a small onion…you can't help but say..ouch! Stinging , burning and crying (oh, my!) like you wouldn’t believe. Hehehe

So here’s the answer why?: I just read this article today and I want to share this discovery to my fellow bloggers.

Lachrymatory-factor synthase, an enzyme that was discovered by Japanese researchers in 2002, is released when you cut into an onion. This enzyme converts the onion's sulfoxides into sulfenic acid. The sulfenic acid rearranges itself into an unstable compound known as syn-propanethial-S-oxide. Once this compound reaches our eyes, it irritates them, causing the crying reflex to kick in to flush out the irritants.

Additional infos:

There are three types of tears — basal, reflex and emotional. Basal tears keep your eyes from drying out, like on a windy day. Reflex tears clear your eyes of irritants, such as when you get dirt in your eye. And finally, emotional tears can be a result of happiness, sadness or any other emotion that gets your cry on.

The kind of tears you’re producing when you’re chopping onions is reflex tears, because your brain is sending the message to your eyes to flush out the unstable compound mentioned above.

So is there anything you can do to prevent it?

Well, a scientist at New Zealand’s Crop and Food Research Institute by the name of Colin Eady is working on creating a tear-free onion. That’s right, folks — no more crying. Using gene-silencing technology, Eady was able to shut down the lachrymatory-factor synthase gene and create an onion that did not induce tears. The onion is a long way from grocery store shelves, but we could be on our way in the next few years.

Until then, here are some other things you can try:

First, try sticking your onions in the refrigerator for a few hours before you cut them. Or the National Onion Association (yes, there is one) suggests cutting the top end of the onion off and peeling downward, but cutting off the root end (the one with all the hair on it) last. This is because the cells that release the onion's bountiful sulfur are concentrated at the base. It also might help to peel the onions under water.
Hmmm...good luck chopping!

Ruby Tuesday & Orange Tuesday: " An expression of love"

I made this for my dearest husband that I loved so much...It was indeed a very effective way of expressing love to someone dear to you.I let him  read it as he opened the door  when he got home from work a month ago. He was really so surprised by that very creative way of expressing love for him. I know it was quite funny but that’s me…I love to show my feelings for him in some unique ways. So happy seeing him that time that he’s overwhelmed of what I did  and I’m still doing it until now...Surprise!!. It really feels good when you make someone special very happy in that moment of time and I know he won't forget it.hmmm good that I was able to take a picture of this.So now I could post this for Ruby  Tuesday becoz of the heart color that is red and for Orange Tuesday becoz of the oranges fruits  that were formed for those letters I and U.hehehe:) I LOVE YOU!
